What is a transit document?
A T1 transit document allows goods to pass from the UK to the EU without needing to make an import customs clearance and paying taxes and duties at the first port of entry. For example, if you are transporting goods from Dover to Calais and onto Germany if you are using a T1 you can clear the goods in Germany and not France where they enter the EU.
At Chamber Customs we can submit transit documents for you and provide the guarantee. However, the documents are required to be activated at the customs office of departure which can sometimes cause delays if they are busy.
What is an Authorised Consignor and how can this help?
If you regularly load your goods at the same locations in the UK for export transit, you can avoid queuing at a busy customs office or Inland Border Facility by becoming an Authorised Consignor. At Chamber Customs, we can set you up as an Authorised Consignor, at no additional cost to the T1 document, and the movement can start at the location the goods are loaded. You will get the Movement Reference Number and can print the T1 document at your premises to avoid the driver having to stop on the journey to the EU.
